Inclusion:
Able Children - An able child is any child who has the potential to, or who is achieving in any area of life significantly beyond what would be expected from a child of that chronological age.

All children attending Andrews’ Endowed are entitled to a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. We believe that every individual should have the opportunity to develop and realise their full potential. To ensure that this happens, we aim to provide learning opportunities for our able children that offer challenge, intellectual stimulation and an enriched curriculum. We believe that the able child needs just as much support, guidance and encouragement as the less able.

We try to

bullet pointidentify the child as early as possible in his or her time in school
bullet pointdevelop the specific skills and talents of each individual child
bullet pointrecognise each child as an individual and be concerned for the whole child, both socially as well as intellectually
bullet pointoffer an entitlement to an appropriate education involving activities that are richer, broader and deeper, going beyond the normal curriculum
bullet pointwork largely within the classroom environment

At Andrews’ Endowed School we look for high intellectual ability, specific aptitude in one or more subjects, creativity, leadership skills, ability in creative, artistic and performing arts and specific sports ability.

Special Needs - The school provides excellent resources for children with special needs, not only with learning support from our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and Specialist Teaching Assistants, but also in specialist resources and facilities. In conjunction with Lord Mayor Treloars College also sited in Holybourne, we have installed specialist access for children with mobility problems, wheelchair access and a disabled toilet.

Those children who need extra learning support whilst here at Andrews' Endowed Primary School have their own tailored learning plans ensuring they are getting the most effective help from all adults within the school, including teaching and non-teaching staff. Inclusion within the school allows for a happy and secure school environment.

From entry into the school at age 4, tests are carried out to determine any learning or behavioural
problems. These are then put into an individual learning programme that will ensure each child gets the most effective support. This can be from one-to-one help from the SENCO, working in small groups within class, or help from specialists outside the school.

At Andrews' Endowed Primary School we also believe in recycling - and uniforms are no exception. Children grow quickly at this age, so most items rarely have the chance to wear out. Once a term the PTFA run a second-hand uniform stall. Details from the school office.

ANDREWS’ ENDOWED C OF E (A) PRIMARY SCHOOL
BEHAVIOUR POLICY & GUIDELINES

At Andrews’ Endowed we have high expectations of our pupils behaviour and encourage self-discipline. We would like our children to be known for their politeness and sensible behaviour while in school and when on school journeys. In order to help our pupils develop self-discipline, consideration and respect for authority and others, we have school and classroom codes of conduct, which are consistently reinforced by all adults and applied equally to all children. This policy should be read in conjunction with the school’s anti-bullying policy.

As soon as the children enter school during the published hours of opening the teachers, non-teaching assistants and lunchtime staff are ‘in loco parentis’ and our expectation, in terms of behaviour, is equivalent to that of firm, caring parents. As such the rules we have will be kept. Children should not arrive on school premises before 8.46a.m.

We manage behaviour in a kind but firm way through discussion and with care. Any difficulties may be resolved through discussion with the class teacher and parents will be involved at an early stage if a child’s behaviour is causing concern. Although our behaviour management strategies are based on positive reinforcement, sanctions will be applied when a child persists in unacceptable behaviour and privileges may be withdrawn if it is considered appropriate, including permission to remain on-site during the lunch period.

Bullying will not be tolerated under any circumstances, neither will bad language.

In accordance with the 1988 Education Reform Act, the County has a clearly defined procedure for exclusion. If it is considered necessary to exclude a pupil from attendance at the school, parents have the right to appeal if they consider the exclusion unreasonable. The decision to exclude a child will be made by the Headteacher and the Local Education Authority’s guidelines will be followed. A pupil may be excluded for a fixed length of time of up to 45 days in any one school year or, if necessary, permanently. Any pupil excluded for a fixed term of more than 5 consecutive days will be provided with suitable work to be completed at home. I f a pupil has already been excluded from two or more schools, parents can no longer automatically insist that he/she be offered a place at another school which has unfilled places. This restriction lasts for two years from the date of the last excluseion and the right of appeal by the parents is removed. Where the LEA decides a school should admit a twice-excluded pupil, the governing body may appeal against that decision to an independent committee. Governors at Andrews’ Endowed School will consider applications from previously excluded pupils in line with the criteria stated in its’ admission policy.
