Our Classes

The School has seven classes ranging from Year R to Year 6. Click on the links below to find out about each class and its curriculum.

Homework
Learning at home is an essential part of good education. Homework not only reinforces classroom learning, it also helps children to develop skills and attitudes they need for successful lifelong learning. It supports the development of independent learning skills, including the habits of enquiry and investigation and contributes to the home/school partnership.

Homework is effective when:Key Stage 1 exercises

bullet pointhomework tasks are structured and their purpose explained to pupils  
bullet pointthere is consistent practice across the school  
bullet pointhomework is given regularly so that everyone knows what to expect each week  
bullet pointpupils and parents are clear about what they need to do  
bullet pointthere are high expectations  
bullet pointpupils receive clear feedback  
bullet pointhomework policies are monitored and evaluated.

The focus of the homework will be on literacy and numeracy through investigations and activities which encourage the children to think. Regular reading at home, especially reading with parents, will be encouraged. 

From time to time children will be given other tasks such as finding out information and preparing information as well as traditional writing tasks.

Recommended Time for Homework 
The following times are recommended by the Government and include reading time for all children.

Years 1 and 2 1 hour per week Spellings, other literacy work and number work
Years 3 and 4 1.5 hours per week Literacy and numeracy as for Years 1 and 2, with occasional assignments in other subjects
Years 5 and 6 2.5 hours per week Regular weekly schedule with continued emphasis on literacy and numeracy but also ranging widely over the curriculum
